Thanks to our friends at Mātātuhi, we'll be leading some mahi for a national Aotearoa New Zealand Children's Book Week in 2026. The plan is for a cross-industry reading campaign that celebrates Aotearoa NZ children’s books and increases the amount that kids read.

The actual event will run for one week – potentially within the last week of July or first two weeks of August –within the NZCYA Book Awards shortlist period, when the interest in the genre is high.

Read NZ Te Pou Muramura will work across the sector and beyond to engage young readers with Kiwi-authored stories. More detail to come, but for any groups in the sector who want to be involved and haven't spoken to us already, please get in touch with juliet@read-nz.org.
