Celebrating the legacy of Hone Tuwhare
Hone Tuwhare’s crib, is located at Kākā Point, on the Catlins Coast, South Otago. The Tuwhare Trust has completed a decade long crib restoration project and created the first residency to be developed in the name and home of a Māori writer. The Hone Tuwhare Residency Programme consists of two foundational residencies we plan to launch in 2025.
The Trust’s objective with the residency programme is to acknowledge and celebrate the Hone Tuwhare legacy; support recipients to spend time at the Tuwhare crib; provide a platform for recipients to be ambassadors of the Hone Tuwhare legacy and support the literary and creative landscape of Aotearoa New Zealand.
This funding will allow the Trust to extend our reach across the literary landscape both locally and nationally, to develop resources to showcase and celebrate the enduring legacy of Hone Tuwhare.
