A new bookish event coming for Invercargill seeks to instil a love of reading amongst tamariki by connecting them with local authors and illustrators.
Books Alive, a programme of events that connects children with finalist authors in the annual New Zealand Book Awards for Children and Young Adults (NZCYA), will expand into Invercargill later this year thanks to support from the Mātātuhi Foundation.
Organisers of NZCYA and associated Book Alive events, the New Zealand Book Awards Trust Te Ohu Tiaki i Te Rau Hiringa applied for one of the Foundation’s project grants, proposing to add Invercargill in as a third one-day event, and potentially a fourth location for 2025.
Previous events have been held in Wellington and Christchurch.
The Trust were successful and were also granted additional funding to support bus transport to bring rural Southland school tamariki to the city for the event.
